While exploring the Carmel market, one might not think to venture out onto the side streets, but those are often the best spots. Down a little alley named Yishkon Street, one can find the hidden treasure that is Shlomo & Doron. If you don’t want to take my word for it, maybe you’ll believe the 61 reviews on trip advisor that gave it the highest rating possible, “excellent”.
The authenticity of the restaurant is undeniable; the atmosphere is inviting and incredibly Israeli. The extensive hummus menu will leave you drooling and struggling to make a decision among all the tasty options. You can get hummus with shakshuka, hummus with mushrooms, hummus with falafel, and, honestly, hummus with anything you can dream of. The accompanying pita bread is equally delicious, its fluffy texture making it reminiscent of clouds - now we’re really dreaming.
Although a favorite among locals, it has also become a popular spot for tourists vying to try one of Israel’s most delicious dishes, and for an amazing price I should add. Tip: The restaurant closes as soon as all the fresh food is gone and because it’s so popular, I’d recommend going before 1 pm. So next time you visit the famous shuk, and need a respite from the chaos of the market, take a little trip to the ~heaven~ that is Shlomo & Doron.
